Like most basils, it is most often used in sauces like pesto and in Mediterranean dishes. It goes well with both meat and salad. To preserve the maximum flavour, it is best to add it at the end of cooking and to tear it rather than chop it to make the most of its aroma.

It is advised to prune the Basil regularly before it flowers. This makes the leaves bitter and stops growth. After pruning your garden, you can freeze what you haven’t used, either by placing the leaves in an air-free freezer bag, or by chopping the leaves into ice cube trays filled with water or oil and then freezing. You can also store your basil leaves directly in a bottle of oil to infuse it. If dried, it will lose a lot of its flavours.
